We don’t want
your data.
The short version: we don't collect, store, sell, or share personal information. The long version is below, written in plain English. Last updated April 2026.
The 30-second summary
- We do not run accounts, logins, or profiles.
- Address lookup happens entirely in your browser — we never receive your address.
- We do not use third-party advertising trackers, pixels, or remarketing.
- We use Google Analytics 4 to measure how people find and use the guide. Google sees your IP address, pseudonymous visitor ID, pages you view, and device type. We don’t see, sell, or combine it with anything else.
- We only email you if you sign up for the newsletter, and one-click unsubscribe is always available.
Who we are
Sensible South Dakota (“we,” “us”) publishes this voter guide at sensiblesouthdakota.org. We are a volunteer editorial team, not a business, not a PAC, not a non-profit with a donor list.
What we don’t collect
We do not collect: your name, your home address, your phone number, your precise location, your party registration, your voting history, your social-media profile, or biometric data. We run no user accounts and have no login system.
Address lookup
The “Find Your Candidate” tool matches your address to your legislative districts. This lookup runs in your browser — the address never leaves your device and we never receive it. If you use “Use my current location,” your browser’s geolocation API is called locally; we receive nothing.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4(GA4) to measure which pages are read, where visitors arrive from, and what device they’re on. Google’s analytics script runs on every page and sets cookies. Google receives your IP address, a pseudonymous client ID, the URLs you visit on our site, your referrer, browser, operating system, and approximate location derived from your IP. We use this data — in aggregate — to understand how the guide is read and to prioritize what we improve.
We do not share analytics data with campaigns, candidates, or committees. We do not sell it. We have not enabled Google Signals, demographic reporting, or Google Ads remarketing features. If you’d rather opt out, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or use your browser’s “Do Not Track” / tracking-protection settings.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, we store your email address and subscription date with our email provider solely to send the newsletter. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe that removes your address immediately.
Contact & tip-line submissions
If you submit a message through our contact form or tip line, we retain it for editorial purposes only. We never publish submitter names or contact details without explicit permission.
Third-party services
Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, video from our own CDN, and the Google Analytics script described above. We do not use Facebook, X, or other social pixels, and we do not run advertising trackers or remarketing beacons. Outbound links to the Secretary of State, county auditors, or candidate sites are governed by those sites’ privacy policies — not ours.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets a first-party cookie (_ga) plus related session cookies to recognize returning visitors and measure traffic. No ad cookies, no cross-site tracking cookies are set by us. You can clear or block these at any time through your browser’s privacy settings without losing any functionality on this site.
Your rights
Because we collect no personal data, there is no personal record of you to access, correct, or delete. If you believe we have any information about you, contact us through the contact page and we will investigate and respond within 14 days.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change this policy we will date it at the top of the page, explain what changed, and notify newsletter subscribers. We will never silently expand what we collect.
